HoneyBook AI for photographers, planners and venues: drafts, price hikes, and what still lands on you

HoneyBook now puts AI on every plan. It writes the reply; you still press Send, chase the couple who went quiet and decide what to do about price. Here is what the AI does, what it costs, and how to cover the gap without leaving HoneyBook.

Short answer

No, HoneyBook does not reply to inquiries on its own. Its AI Composer drafts a response to a new lead or a client email, and you review it and click Send; on an existing project it needs at least two client emails first (HoneyBook Help, checked 1 Oct 2026). HoneyBook lists AI on all plans, from $29 a month billed yearly, but reviewers report bills that "went from $200 to over $600." Follow-up and price decisions still land on you.

HoneyBook now lists AI on every plan, and the feature most vendors notice first is the reply writer. The signal is easy to misread. A tool that writes your inquiry reply is not a tool that answers your inquiries. HoneyBook's own help article is clear that the AI Composer drafts and you send.1

That leaves a photographer, planner or venue paying more for the platform while still owning the steps that decide bookings: pressing Send, chasing the couple who went quiet, and deciding what to say about price. This piece sets out what HoneyBook AI does in October 2026, what reviewers say about cost, and how to cover the gap without migrating anything.

Does HoneyBook respond to inquiries automatically?#

HoneyBook does not respond to inquiries automatically with AI. Its help article says the AI Composer "generates personalized email responses for new inquiries and client emails," using your company information for new leads and the project's history for existing clients. It does not auto-send. You review the draft, edit it and click Send.1

There is also a threshold. The Composer "can suggest a response when a new lead comes in via HoneyBook contact form, or when at least 2 client emails have been sent in the project."1 A lead that arrives some other way, or a project with one email in it, gets no suggestion until the history builds up.

The pricing page lists the wider set of HoneyBook AI features on all three plans: email drafts, follow-up suggestions, priority lead notifications, an AI automations builder, meeting notes and lead enrichment, among others.2 "Follow-up suggestions" is the important phrase. The AI suggests; you act. HoneyBook's automations can send templated emails on a schedule, but you build them, and reviewers find that work hard. One G2 reviewer wrote in August 2026 that the move to "Automations 2.0 was the most difficult, and I still don't feel like I have that figured out."4

Quality is the other variable. A G2 reviewer on 11 July 2026 put it bluntly: "I do not like the AI suggestions most of the time."5

What HoneyBook costs in 2026, and why owners say it went up#

HoneyBook's pricing page, checked on 1 October 2026, lists Starter at $29, Essentials at $49 and Premium at $109 a month, each billed yearly, with HoneyBook AI on all three.2 The list price is only part of what owners report. Reviews over the last two years describe increases far larger than a tier change.

  • A Trustpilot reviewer on 14 September 2026: "Honeybook went from $200 to over $600."3
  • A G2 reviewer on 19 May 2026: "The yearly cost for me doubled last year."4
  • A Trustpilot reviewer on 24 August 2026: "I'm forced to pay for a large number of features that I don't even use."7
  • A HoneyBook Community post on 21 January 2025: "Recent price hikes have made it increasingly difficult to justify continuing with this platform."6

The pattern is familiar from any software bundle. Features arrive for everyone, and so does the higher floor. For a solo photographer, that shifts the question from "is the AI good?" to "am I paying for steps the software still leaves to me?" HoneyBook's overall Trustpilot rating was 4.0 out of 5 across roughly 735 reviews in September 2026, so these are not the only voices.3 They are the ones that matter if your renewal just went up.

What still lands on you after the draft#

After the AI draft, four jobs still land on you: sending it, offering a real time, following up, and handling money. The stakes are set by how couples shop. WeddingPro's 2026 lead-reply report says couples reach out to about five vendors per category, and 77% say pricing matters most before they make contact.8 The Knot's 2026 Real Weddings Study puts the average photographer spend at $3,000.10 One lost booking is a large share of a year's software bill.

Speed is part of it. A thread in r/HoneyBook_Official (c. July 2026) described a solo photographer who lost leads because "By the time he responded manually, the window had closed."9 The larger leak is after the first reply. Pied Piper's 2026 mystery shop of 3,211 home-services inquiries found 72% got no follow-up and only 28% were offered a time.11 Wedding vendors are a different trade, but the mechanism is the same: the first reply gets sent, and the second one depends on someone remembering.

Drafts vs receipts: what you can check later#

A draft records what was written. A receipt records why. The difference matters when a couple comes back in March quoting something from November, or when you want to know whether the AI used last year's package list. With a draft, the only evidence is the sent email. With a receipt, you can see the question, the rule that applied and the source the answer came from.

Sources

If you only ever approve drafts yourself, the receipt matters less: you are the record. It matters once anything replies while you are shooting a wedding.

HoneyBook plus an inquiry handler: the no-migration setup#

HoneyBook and an inquiry handler can sit side by side because they do different jobs. HoneyBook holds the project: proposals, contracts, invoices, payments. The inquiry handler covers the stretch before a project exists and the quiet days after the first reply. Nothing needs to move.

The one rule that makes this work: both tools must read from the same price list. Two lists drift, and the couple sees both. Our ten questions every couple asks is a good starting list.

Where HoneyBook AI goes next: three scenarios#

HoneyBook AI could move in three directions over the next 18 months, and the leading indicators are public. If drafts stay drafts, the base case holds: HoneyBook remains the system of record, and the follow-up stays yours. This looks most likely, because "does not auto-send" is written as a design choice, not a gap.1

If HoneyBook adds send rules for new leads, with a log of what the AI used, acceleration follows and the gap narrows. If price complaints keep growing faster than features, a structural stall follows: small vendors split their stack, keeping a lighter tool for inquiries and a cheaper one for contracts.

Where Valet fits#

Valet works alongside HoneyBook rather than replacing it. You forward the address your inquiries arrive at, such as hello@ or bookings@, to a private Valet address; nothing moves out of HoneyBook. Valet answers email, website forms, directory lead emails and requests on your free Valet page, only from your own price list, packages and calendar. It offers real dates, holds them and books, and sends two useful follow-ups at most by default under the Valet follow-up cap. Discounts, deposits and contracts go to you with one-tap replies. Every reply carries a Valet receipt and is signed as your AI assistant. The free lead check looks at 10 to 20 recent inquiries and shows what went unanswered or stopped after one reply.

Questions people ask

Does HoneyBook respond to inquiries automatically?

Its AI Composer drafts replies but does not send them. HoneyBook's help article says you review the suggested response and click Send yourself. Automations you build can send templated emails, but the AI draft itself waits for you.

Which HoneyBook plans include AI?

HoneyBook's pricing page, checked on 1 October 2026, lists HoneyBook AI features such as email drafts, follow-up suggestions and priority lead notifications on Starter, Essentials and Premium, priced at $29, $49 and $109 a month billed yearly.

Why did my HoneyBook price go up?

Reviewers report large increases: one Trustpilot reviewer wrote it "went from $200 to over $600" (September 2026), and a G2 reviewer wrote "The yearly cost for me doubled last year" (May 2026). Check your own plan history in your account.

Do I have to leave HoneyBook to get inquiries followed up?

No. You can keep HoneyBook for contracts, invoices and payments and point the email address your inquiries arrive at to a separate assistant that answers and follows up. Inquiries that arrive only through HoneyBook's own contact form stay inside HoneyBook.
