Google AI Mode now books tables and appointments, through partner platforms. What if you're not on one?
AI Mode's booking feature runs through the reservation and scheduling platforms Google partners with. A wedding venue, a photographer or a consultant on none of them is reached another way: by questions. Here is the map, three scenarios and what to watch.
Short answer
Google AI Mode's booking feature works through partner platforms. It launched in the US on 17 November 2025, and the UK restaurant version (April 2026) runs through eight named partners such as OpenTable, TheFork and SevenRooms, returning reservation links on those platforms (PPC Land). Coverage does not say a business on no partner platform can be booked. For an off-platform venue, vendor or professional, the AI reaches you as a question instead, so a fast, priced written answer with a real time is what counts.

Google AI Mode can now take a request like "a table for six near the station on Friday" and hand back places you can reserve. It does that through partner platforms. The US version rolled out on 17 November 2025, and the UK restaurant version, live from 10 April 2026, runs through eight named partners: TheFork, SevenRooms, ResDiary, Mozrest, Foodhub, Dojo, DesignMyNight and OpenTable.1 PPC Land's coverage does not say whether a business outside those partners can be booked.1 If you run a wedding venue, a photography studio or a consulting practice on none of them, AI Mode reaches you another way: as a question. The question is the part you control.
What does Google AI Mode booking do?#
Google AI Mode booking is a feature that turns a plain-language request into a shortlist of places with reservation links. PPC Land describes the UK version this way: a person can "describe a dining scenario in natural language and receive a curated list of restaurants with direct reservation links."1 The reservation itself completes on the partner platform, not inside Google's interface.1 Google announced local appointments and event tickets alongside restaurants, as separate capabilities.1
The audience is not small. Alphabet's Q3 2025 earnings put AI Mode at 75 million daily active users, according to PPC Land.1 BrightLocal's 2026 survey of 1,002 US adults found 45% had used AI tools for local recommendations, up from 6% a year earlier.10
The misread signal is the word "books." Read quickly, it suggests Google can now fill any business's diary. Read carefully, it describes a routing layer that sends demand to whoever already exposes bookable inventory through a partner. If you hold no such inventory, the feature does not skip you on purpose. It simply has nothing to call.
Which businesses can AI assistants book today?#
AI assistants in October 2026 can book only businesses whose calendars sit behind a platform the assistant has a deal with. The pattern repeats across every assistant we could document. Square's July 2026 announcement says eligible US food and beverage sellers with Square Online Ordering are "opted in with no additional work, setup, or fees required" for ordering through ChatGPT and Claude.3 Yelp Assistant schedules appointments through Vagaro, Zocdoc, Calendly and RepairPal.5 Through Yelp, ChatGPT can book tables, join waitlists and change reservations.6 ChatGPT shows its Get Quote button "only when the business has an eligible service provider."7
Where no platform sits in between, the assistant asks instead of booking. Google's automated calls ask businesses to "Confirm price and availability of services and products," among other tasks.4 Gemini's Call for Me, rolling out from 24 September 2026 on Pixel 11 in the US, can call to check hours, availability and quotes.13
| Assistant feature | What it can do | Platform the business must be on | What an off-platform venue, vendor or pro receives |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google AI Mode booking | Shortlist with reservation links; restaurants, with appointments and tickets announced | A Google partner platform (8 named for UK restaurants) | Nothing bookable; possibly a visit to your profile or site |
| Reserve with Google | Reserve and pay for a service, in certain regions | A Reserve with Google partner | Nothing; Google lists it as an alternative, not a default |
| Google automated calls (Ask for Me) | Calls to book, check wait times, confirm price and availability | None, but US only, excluding five states | A phone call asking for price and availability |
| Gemini Call for Me | Calls to check hours, availability, quotes; book appointments | None (customer needs Pixel 11, US) | A phone call from an assistant that identifies itself as AI |
| Yelp Assistant | Reserve tables; schedule via Vagaro, Zocdoc, Calendly, RepairPal; request estimates | Yelp listing; a partner calendar to be booked | A quote request in your Yelp inbox |
| ChatGPT Get Quote | Opens a partner's quote form inside ChatGPT | An eligible service provider | A quote request on that provider's platform |
| ChatGPT via Yelp (restaurants) | Book tables, join waitlists, change reservations | Yelp reservations | Nothing bookable |
| Square in ChatGPT and Claude | Order food from participating sellers | Square Online Ordering, US food and beverage | Not applicable outside food ordering |
| Google Business Profile AI agent (pilot) | First reply to profile messages | Google Business Profile, US pilot | A "Needs your attention" message, if the pilot shows on your dashboard |

Read down the last column. For a business on no partner platform, the shipped features produce two outputs: a question, or nothing. None produces a booking. This is the gap for the segments the booking platforms were not built around. MMCG counts 35,829 US wedding venues, 71.8% of them single-owner (2026, reported in an investment thesis).11 Many of those sell a date after a tour and a quote, a sale no table-reservation widget models.
Why the platforms got there first#
Agentic booking follows the inventory, and inventory sits on platforms. An assistant cannot book a calendar it cannot read, so every builder starts where calendars are already structured, priced in fixed slots and exposed through an interface. Restaurants on reservation systems fit that shape. So do salons on scheduling software and food sellers on a point-of-sale system.
The economics point the same way. For the platform, an assistant that routes demand into its system is a new acquisition channel at little marginal cost. Square made the point plainly by enrolling eligible sellers with no setup and no marketplace commission.3 That is commoditization of the complement in its classic form: the platform makes the assistant's access cheap so that its own inventory becomes the default answer.
The choke point for an off-platform business is not the model's intelligence. It is the absence of a readable, bookable endpoint. A $12,900 venue booking, The Knot's 2026 average reception venue spend,15 does not fit a slot picker; it needs questions answered about guest count, catering rules and dates first. Until that structure exists somewhere an assistant can reach, the assistant's best move is to ask.
What Google's own history says about new channels#
Google's own record with business-facing channels is a useful base rate, and it is a record of churn. On 31 July 2024 Google removed Business Profile chat, the chat FAQ and quote requests: "customers can no longer request quotes."2 Its suggested replacements were text or WhatsApp for eligible accounts, a phone number, external chat channels, and Reserve with Google for bookings "in certain regions."2
Two years later a Messages section returned to some US dashboards with an AI agent answering first. Partoo describes it as an unstable pilot with no official documentation, and as of its September 2026 update it had appeared and disappeared.8 We covered it in our explainer on the Business Profile AI agent.
The lesson for planning is modest. A channel Google opens can close inside two years, and the business that built its intake around it starts over. The diffusion curve for AI booking will probably be steep at the platform end and slow at the long tail, because the long tail has no common calendar format. Google also says you need no special files to appear: "no special schema.org structured data that you need to add" for AI Overviews or AI Mode.9 Visibility is not the bottleneck it is often sold as. Bookability is.
Three scenarios for off-platform businesses through 2027#
Three scenarios cover the plausible range for AI Mode booking and the off-platform business. We give no probabilities, because no public data supports them. We give the indicator that would tell you which one is arriving.
| Scenario | What happens | Leading indicator | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base case: partner-only | AI Mode and peers add categories, but only via platforms with feeds. Off-platform businesses keep receiving questions. | New AI Mode categories announced with named partners only | Your written answer speed and pricing decide whether the assistant's user contacts you |
| Acceleration: open booking | Google or another assistant books against any business's own calendar link or page, without a partner. | Google documentation describing booking for non-partner businesses | A bookable page with real times becomes directly usable by assistants |
| Structural stall | Booking features stay narrow or are pulled back, as Business Profile chat was in 2024. | Features removed from help pages; partner lists shrink | Nothing changes; people still email, fill forms and call |
The useful property of this table is that one action survives all three rows. If the base case holds, the questions arrive and need answers. If acceleration comes, a page with real times is what an assistant would book. If the stall comes, the same page serves people. A plan that pays off in every scenario does not need a forecast to be right.
The demand side supports the base case for now. SOCi's 2026 index found ChatGPT recommends 1.2% of the locations it studied, per Near Media.12 Invoca measured what happens when Google's AI calls asking for prices: 26% of calls went unanswered, and 48% of answered calls gave no price (December 2025).14 On our arithmetic, roughly six in ten of those AI price requests ended without a price. That is a lagging indicator of how unready the long tail is to answer.
What should a venue, vendor or professional do now?#
An off-platform business should make itself answerable before it worries about being bookable. The steps below cost little and hold in every scenario above.
- Decide whether a partner platform fits your sale. If you sell fixed slots, such as a table, a class or a 30-minute appointment, joining a scheduling or reservation platform may be the direct route into AI booking. If you sell a date after a tour and a quote, it probably is not.
- Write down the six facts assistants ask about. Price or range, availability, service area, minimums, policies and the next step. Our guide to a facts sheet before AI answers customers sets out the format.
- Publish one bookable, answerable page. Link it from your Business Profile and website. It should let a person, or an assistant writing for one, ask a question and get real times back.
- Answer AI calls and quote requests like paid leads. A Yelp quote request started in ChatGPT is still a lead. See where ChatGPT and Yelp Assistant requests land.
- Offer a time, not a link alone. A specific held slot moves faster than a calendar to browse; we compared the two in booking link vs email back-and-forth.
- Keep profile and site facts identical. Assistants read both. A price on one and a different price on the other is the fastest route to a wrong answer.
The broader map of what has shipped, including checkout protocols, is in agentic commerce in plain English. What "ready" means for the questions themselves is in what agent-ready means for a small business.
When this forecast expires#
This analysis expires on 31 March 2027, or sooner if one of three things happens. Google documents AI Mode booking for businesses outside partner platforms. Google names partners for venues, events or professional services. Or Google removes AI Mode booking from a market where it launched. Any of these changes the map above, and we will revise it.
Status as of 1 Oct 2026. AI Mode booking details come from trade press (PPC Land, April 2026), not from Google documentation for businesses. We found no Google page stating partner requirements or fees.
Where Valet fits#
Valet does not connect to AI Mode, Reserve with Google or any booking partner. It covers the off-platform path: the question. You forward your inquiry address to Valet, and it answers email, website forms, listing and marketplace lead emails, and requests on your free Valet page at my.valet.team/name. It answers whoever writes, including an AI assistant acting for a customer, using only your own price list, packages, calendar and policies. It offers real times, holds them and books them, and anything not on your list waits for you. Every reply says it is AI and comes with a Valet receipt. To see what your current inquiries are missing, start with the free lead check: forward 10 to 20 recent inquiries and see which went unanswered and what they were worth.
Questions people ask
Can Google AI Mode book my business if I'm not on OpenTable or a similar platform?
Nothing published says so. PPC Land's April 2026 report lists eight UK restaurant partners and returns reservation links on those platforms; it does not say non-partner businesses can be booked. Treat AI Mode booking as partner-only until Google documents otherwise.
How does Google AI Mode booking work?
A person describes what they want in plain language, and AI Mode returns a short list of places with direct reservation links through partner platforms. Per PPC Land, the booking itself happens on the partner platform rather than inside Google's interface.
Is Reserve with Google the same as AI Mode booking?
They are separate. Google's help page lists Reserve with Google, in certain regions, as one alternative for bookings after Business Profile chat and quote requests were removed in July 2024. AI Mode booking is a newer feature that also relies on partner platforms.
What should a wedding venue or independent professional do about AI Mode booking?
Make sure the questions an assistant or a person sends you get answered quickly in writing, with your price or range, your availability and a real time to meet. Link one bookable, answerable page from your Business Profile and website, and keep your facts consistent across both.
Do I need special markup or an AI file to appear in AI Mode?
Google says no. Its Search Central guidance (updated December 2025) states there are no additional requirements and no special schema.org structured data needed to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode.
